The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 in the U.S. by John Muir to protect the environment. It is a grassroots organization that works towards goals such as decreasing dependency on coal and oil, protecting water and habitats, and working to help youth care about the environment.
The Sierra Club makes getting information about environmental issues easy and they also try to focus on ways individuals can help, which is one of the best things about them. If you subscribe to their mailing list, they will send out articles and alert you when relevant legislation is under consideration and provide you with links to petitions and let you know how to contact your representatives so you can participate in the process. Of course, you should try to get information from as many sources as possible, but the Sierra Club is often a very helpful first resource.
