    According to the 2006 Canadian census, the city of Barrie is Canada’s fastest growing. Barrie is located north of Toronto and saw a 24% rise for the city and 19.2% rise for the region, bringing the population to 177,061. Other Canadian growth areas include Oshawa, Toronto, Kitchener, Brantford and Guelph along the shores of the Great Lakes, known as the Golden Horseshoe.
