Some environmentally friendlier alternatives to bleach are: vinegar, borax, a salt & water mixture, lemon juice, and hydrogen peroxide. Any of these can whiten clothing when used to wash–one at a time.

Natural alternatives to bleach include: vinegar, borax, lemon juice, and hydrogen peroxide. Aside from these homemade bleaches, you can buy chlorine-free bleach from Seventh Generation or Ecover. Bi-O-Kleen and Oxo Brite also sell chlorine-free, non-toxic bleach.
