i have a redbud tree, good sized, that has a hollow spot in the center of the trunk. it is very healthy otherwise and i want to keep bugs from getting in it.
While cavity filling was once common, it is not usually recommended by tree specialists anymore. The current mode of thought is that aesthetic concerns are the only reason to fill a tree. If you still want to fill it, tree specialists can inject a synthetic foam that will be able to sway with the tree.
