The shortest river in the U.S. may actually be the shortest in the world. It is the D River in Lincoln City, Oregon and a point of pride for locals. Others claim that the D is a mere brook and that the Lunk River in Klamath County, Oregon is in fact the shortest at a mere 8,000 feet in length.
Since 1989, Roe River is documented as the world shortest river in the Guinness Book of World Records, beating out the D River in Oregon. The river runs 201 feet at its most consistent, longest point. Located in Great, Falls Montana, this river runs between Giant Springs and the Missouri River. The D river tried to reclaim its title by saying that it’s a mere 120 feet at extremely high tides. However, in 2006 the Guinness Book of World Records stopped listing the shortest river as a category.
