Since people more and more frequently can work from home without having to go to an office building, some opt to build a shed in their yard as an outdoor office rather than convert a room in their house. Shed working gained popularity in the UK, due to a temperate climate and a tendency for smaller houses with larger yards, and has since spread to the United States.
Shedworking was a term coined by Alex Johnson, who also wrote a book on the topic. The idea is to create a space (a shed, ideally) where you can go to get work done in your own backyard. Because over 29 million Americans work from home at least one day per month, it makes sense to have a space independent from their home lives where they can go to get work done effectively and efficiently.
