A sharp-shinned hawk is one of the smallest hawk species in North America, however its range stretches from Canada all the way down to South America in Northern Argentina.  The hawks prefer coniferous and broad leaved forest areas for their habitat.  The average sharp-shinned hawk has a wing span ranging from 20-27 inches and weighs less than a pound.
