Sedge can refer to a number of things, including a few types of plants and a small moth-like insect. I’ll stick with the broadest meaning – Sedge most widely refers to any of the plants found within the Cyperaceae family. These plants are flowering plants that resemble some grasses. There are roughly 4,000 species found within this family. A well known example of a sedge is the water chesnut.
