One scavenger that can be found in the rainforests of South America is the king vulture. They feed on carrion and some scientists believe that they have a keen sense of smell that they use to locate their food, while others believe that they use their eyesight to spot their next meal, and others believe they follow other birds to find their food. They weigh anywhere from 6 to 10 pounds and have a wingspan of 4 to 5.5 feet.
The earthworm is a scavenger in the rainforest. It eats dead/dying leaves and plants. It’s whole diet consists of eating dead plant matter. A scavenger is an animal that does not hunt it’s food — rather, it scavenges off of already killed or dead material.
