Sandstone is a sedimentary rock (formed by deposition and consolidation of mineral and organic material and from precipitation of minerals from solution) that is composed mainly of feldspar and quartz. The sandstone varies in color (grey, yellow, red, and white) depending on which other minerals are present. Sandstone generally has a coarse texture that varies by grain size and shape. This kind of rock is very soft and porous.
