Salvage logging is taking away damaged or downed trees. This often occures after a fire or major wind storm that takes down many or most of the trees. Recently, this has come under debate because of the loss of basic nutrients for the forest to regrow and the threat of more fires ravaging the salvaged area. Some say that salvage logging actually decreases the prevalence of future fires in the area, but the debate is still ongoing.
