The Smart ForTwo received the highest ratings of Smart cars on the market. The crash tests showed that, despite its size, the Smart ForTwo held up well in frontal and side collisions. However, it did not merit the Top Safety Pick title as it did not meet the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s whiplash standards. On side crash tests, the door may also open which does not affect the grading but is not preferred. In any situation and especially on highways it is safer to be in the larger, heavier vehicle. However this is true of all cars and the Smart tested as well or better than other small vehicles.
