Safety glass is designed to break into thousands of tiny little pieces instead of giant shards to minimize injury. This kind of glass is commonly used on school buses and cars, so if you do get in an accident, the glass won’t break in dangerously sharp points.
Safety glass is used in all car windows and eyeglass lenses now. It is actually not just glass, but is two sheets of glass with a thin plastic layer in between. The glass sheets are tempered so when broken it crumbles into round pieces instead of shattering into shards. The plastic and tempering means that when it is broken it still sticks to the plastic for the most part, and it does not get really sharp.
