Renewable energy sources play a major role in addressing climate change. The major sources of green house gas emissions are from the combustion of fossil fuels. Renewable energy can replace fossil fuels as a much cleaner and environmentally safe alternative. Renewable energy resources have the potential to provide all of our energy needs. The use of coal powered plants and nuclear power plants could end with the continued development and implementation of renewable energy systems.

Renewable energy is also important for the simple fact that it is renewable and is generated from resources which are already readily available to us. It doesn’t involve mining or burning. Renewable technologies take advantage of the clean resources we already have available.
