What role does the Sun play in the ocean currents?

Ocean currents and tides are largely affected by the moon, but on a smaller scale the sun has an effect as well. Put simply, the earth and moon are pulled towards each other by gravity–the earth isn’t moved by this pull, but the effect we see of this is the movement of the tides and currents. The sun has less effect on this namely because it has 46% the gravitational pull of the moon.
