The environment plays a major role in preventing chronic illness. As much as 80 diseases are caused by environmental hazards that could be prevented by taking better care of the environment. This would help prevent 13 million deaths worldwide that are lost to illness because of poor environmental standards. Sadly, many of these diseases affect those in the developing world where environmental conditions are much more imbalanced and dangerous. However, diseases like cancer affect everyone, everywhere and are just as much preventable by better environmental conditions as other environmentally caused diseases.
