The restoration of natural systems is the study and implementation of programs and policies that restore or rehabilitate ecosystems and habitats that have suffered negative environmental change. An example would be a wetland marsh that had been drained or otherwise altered, causing species of waterfowl to die off. Restoration would include refilling the marsh’s water and reintroducing species of birds to the restored marsh so that the previous ecosystem could be reestablished.
