There are really several main soil contaminants. No one is responsible for a significantly higher percentage than another. These contaminants include but are not limited to:improper storage of industrial waste products, improper disposal of waste, construction/demolition, air pollutants which seep into the ground, and the improper and overuse of fertilizers/pesticides. Though, most, if not all soil contamination is caused by human activity or human invention.
Soil contamination most commonly occurs with the rupture of storage tank, discharge of wastes from landfills, and the over application of pesticides.
