Hydroelectric is the most used renewable energy that powers homes. It currently accounts for 7% of the electricity in the United States. Large dams aren’t necessary for hydroelectric power, either. Oftentimes a small turbine can be powered in a canal. It’s interesting to note that there is an environmental impact from dams that divert water. Fish migration disturbances and flooding sometimes result from the building of dams.
