Cortisol is a chemical released when humans are stressed.  The purpose of the corticol is to help the bopdy’s fight or flight response return to normal.  Cortisol also assists with many different bodyily ccyles, including glucose management, blood pressure maintenance, and immune function.  The problem, is that the more an individual is stressed, the more cortisol is released to asist them in once again reaching equilibrium.  The more cortisol is released, the less the brain responds to it.  This causes a problem in that individuals who are consistenly inhigh stress, have a harder time calming back down.
