What is the recently discovered Durrell’s Vontsira species?

    The new discovery is of a new species of carnivore, found in Madagascar.

    It is the first discovery of a new carnivore in 24 years. The creature weighs under 2 pounds and belongs to a family of carnivores only known to be found on the island of Madagascar, this family of carnivores the creature belongs too is also the most threatened family of carnivores in the world.

    The Durrell’s Vontsira is closely related to the brown-tailed vontsira. This mongoose-like carrnivore was first discovered in 2004 by researchers from the Durrel Wildlife Conservation Trust.
