Part of installing offshore wind turbines is analyzing the local ecosystem and ensuring that it is not damaged, per example of the CapeWind project in Nantucket. They took care to monitor the local fish populations as well as researching the avian groups before planning the layout of the wind farm so it would be as unobstursive as possible. If this example becomes the standard then the radius of marine ecosystem affected by said wind farm would not be an issue.
