What purpose do leafs on trees serve?

Leaves are in charge of two very important functions for trees: cellular respiration and photosynthesis. In cellular respiration, glucose (chemical energy) becomes usable energy for the plant. It’s sort of like the plant’s metabolic stage: transforming what it “eats” into energy. Photosynthesis is how the plant gets this glucose. It transforms light energy into chemical energy. In order to complete photosynthesis, the plant needs sunlight. It is able to generate glucose from the sunlight and then it uses cellular respiration to feed the plant.
