What is the purpose of the Al Gore ice sculpture in Alaska?

The sculpture depicts him “blowing smoke”; it is meant to be a criticism of the politician and his methods for getting people to pay attention to global warming. Considering the sources that the Frozen Gore site uses, its founders seem to believe that global warming exists but don’t necessarily buy into the most widely-accepted ways to fix it. The sculpture has a tongue-in-cheek humor to it, and a big part of the reason it was built was just to raise money to hep Fairbanks’ troubled and homeless youth.
