In the water cycle, evaporation is caused by the sun heating up bodies of water turning the water into vapor or steam. Also, plants transpire (release water from their leaves) which adds vapor into the air as well.
Once in the air, the water vapor cools and condenses forming clouds. Once the vapor condenses to a certain point, it is too heavy for the air, and precipitation occurs.
