Post-materialism as the name implies is the social paradigm shift away from materialism in certain areas of the western world during the prosperous times that followed the second world world. It is associated with greater emphasis on issues of environmental integrity, socio-political equality, and fundamental rights as opposed to economic prosperity and social control. This is seen to be associated with a decreased concern with day to day survival as standards of living increased in these societies.
