What is a ‘post-carbon’ world?

A post-carbon world refers to a future of our species that no longer relies on unsustainable energy sources and thrives within the means and balance of the environment. “Carbon” has become a shorthand term referring to greenhouse gases and other pollutants in our atmosphere due to human activity. A post-carbon world could be called a “green world,” a system of existence without dependence on cheap, polluting fuels and industries.
