A plug in diesel hybrid is a car that can run on an electricity only mode but also has an engine that runs on diesel. Overall it’s the latest technology to make cars more green.
A plug-in diesel hybrid vehicle is identical to a plug-in electric hybrid, in that it has both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine, as well as a rechargeable battery that can be restored to full charge by plugging into the grid. The plug-in diesel simply uses diesel fuel to supplement the battery, with a button allowing the driver to switch between electric and diesel. Volvo has announced production of plug-in diesel hybrids in 2012, that will get an estimated 125MPG.
