This is the process of converting sunlight into energy through solar cells! The basic process that makes solar power happen!
Light is composed of particles called photons that have momentum, but no mass. Like when a pool player breaks in a game of pool by firing the cue ball at the other balls, when photons slam into a solar panel, they “break” electrons free and push them down a wire as electric current. Photovoltaics (solar panels) use the ejecting electrons to create an electric field between two plates, which allows exterior devices, such as a lamp or a parking meter, to be powered with a regular circuit. The whole process is called the photovoltaic effect.
