Almost 69% of all water withdrawals worldwide are used for irrigation. Irrigation is responsible for providing water in agriculture – forty percent of all crops grown worldwide use irrigation instead of depending on rainfall. 42% of all water withdrawals in the U.S. are used for irrigation, which is the lowest among top irrigating countries. The highest percentage of water withdrawals used for irrigation belongs to Pakistan, at 97%.
