This is a toughie. As of August 2010, hybrids make up 3% of the American car market. The CEO of Nissan, Carlos Ghosn predicts that in 2020, electric vehicles will make up 10% of car sales worldwide. But, PricewaterhouseCoopers estimates that by 2020, 2-5% of light vehicles will be pure electric vehicles. A third source expects the percentage of the total market taken by hybrids in 2020 will be 20%.
Given these expectations, I would hope that the total of hybrids and EVs will be between 15% and 25% in 2020.
