Pedestrian power is the harnessing of energy that is created by the pounding of walking feet by large crowds of people. The concept was demonstrated in a model by two architecture classmates who won first place in the Swiss Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction. The design is composed of a mesh floor that depresses under walking feet. This moves magnets past coils to generate electricity. Although with current technology the system is not powerful yet, the system can be utilized in architectural thinking in the future.
