Peat, like other fossil fuels, is made from decomposed organic matter, in this case specifically vegetation. Unlike the fossil fuels we’re most familiar with, peat is only partially decayed. It is found in wetland areas, often called peat bogs. It is used to fuel fires especially in the home, but also for industry in Ireland and Finland.
