The Southeast United States is effected the most because its coastal areas are also low-land areas. Swamps and marshes are natural wetlands, but as the sea level continues to rise, wetland territory will grow causing dry land to recede. Cities like New Orleans which are built at or below sea-level are protected by levees which can be compromised as we saw during Hurricane Katrina. If the sea-level continues to rise these levees will become obsolete; if a larger barrier is not built these communities could be overcome by the sea.
