Parchment paper used in baking is a cellulose based paper. Parchment paper is created by running paper pulp through a sulfuric acid bath, zinc chloride may also be used. Parchment paper used to write on or for artistic renderings is also known as vellum and is typically made from treated animal skins. This sort of parchment paper is treated with lime and alcohol.
Parchment paper can also be made from calfskin, deerskin, goatskin, and sheepskin.
