The palila bird is a finch about 19cm with a short, rounded bill. They are monogamous birds. The palila was one of the first species put on the endangered list when the list was created in 1973. They have been uplisted to Critically Endangered because since 2005, they’ve suffered extremely rapid declines which are projected to continue at a rate equivalent to 97% over the next 14 years.
