The ozone layer is a deep layer in the stratosphere, which encircles the Earth, and has large amounts of ozone (O3) in it. The layer absorbs 97-99% of the Sun’s high frequency ultraviolet light and shields life on Earth from the damaging ultraviolet radiation emitted from the Sun.
