What the oxygen content of the Earth’s atmosphere before green plants?

    Scientists hypothesize that before the evolution of chlorophyll and green plants, there was no oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere. Instead, the first atmosphere was probably created by volcanic eruptions that spewed water vapor, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide into the air.
