The Milky Way Galaxy.
Our galaxy is simply known as the Milky Way Galaxy, stemming from its appearance in the night sky to stargazers. The whitish band that the rest of the galaxy forms across the sky is reminiscent of a trail of spilled milk, and the name stuck. Some experts believe it stems from Greek culture, as even the word “galaxy” comes from the Greek word “galactos,” which means milk. Outside of large cities and unobstructed by light pollution, the Milky Way galaxy appears as whitish patches, which we know now are clusters of stars.
