Oro Valley, Arizona launched in December a $4 million initiative to install a solar array atop the town’s covered parking lot for town hall. The project will install 1,000 solar panels, and the town believes the array can offset the complex’s energy by nearly 60% and save approximately $164,000 per year.

The solar panels in Oro Valley, Arizona number over 1,000.  Sixty percent of the energy that the town uses is provided by sun energy. The building of the numerous solar panels itself is expensive (about $4 million), but in the long run, the project is saving the town an average of $164,000 in energy costs. Oro Valley has installed these panels with the hopes of receiving LEED (Leaders in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
