There are many organizations devoted to planting trees throughout California. The Urban Tree Foundation and TreePeople.org, both based in Southern California, are just two of many that are based in California. Generally, cities and counties take responsibility for planting trees in local communities. For example, SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) will plant trees for residents free of charge as a means of providing shade to save energy and to keep the air clean. TreeDavis is my town’s nonprofit, volunteer effort to keep things green – literally! Check out the Arbor Day Foundation‘s site for information and resources.
