The first deliberate record of fishing taking place (that we know of) is an Egyptian painting from around 2000 BC, although we know it is more ancient than this from the recovery of fish hook artifacts made of bone and vines. The first writings about fishing come from 100-200 AD Greece. However, recording huge fish catches likely didn’t begin in earnest until the late 1400s AD, when fishing became a sport.
