An octopus may reside in temperate coastal regions of the ocean including tropical areas with mangrove forests and coral reefs. Some examples include southern coastal ranges of Asia, the Gulf of Mexico, and western coasts of Africa. They prefer areas with large rocks, cracks, and crevices for hiding.

Specifically with regard to the question, the octopus lives on the seafloor of the Euphotic Zone, where most animals are located anyways.
