What is the ocean floor made of?

There is a deep layer of sediment covering the ocean floor, made of particles coming from five main sources: terrigenous sediment comes from erosion on land, biogenic sediment comes from decayed living matter like plants and animals, volcanogenic sediment comes from volcanic ash, hydrogenous sediment are minerals and chemicals that precipitate directly out of the sea water, and cosmogenic sediment contains particles that have fallen from space. Different parts of the ocean have different types and ratios of these sediments.
