There are several similar fish that could be considered at the top of the North American aquatic food chain. Probably the highest in the food chain are those of the genus Muskellunge, also known as the fresh water barracuda. Muskies are found throughout the Northern lakes and rivers of North America and can grow to reach sizes of five feet in length and over sixty pounds. They are aggressive fish that prey on anything they can find in their habitats. Other freshwater fish that dominate their food chains are Lake Trout. These large cousins of the salmon are found through out the frozen north and have been known to reach weights exceeding one hundred pounds.
