A nodule is a solid lesion that may or may not be elevated. This small mass of tissues usually forms in response to injury and is often benign and harmless. Some nodules can be malignant though or interfere with the functioning of the body. Nodules 20 mm or larger are considered tumors. Some examples of where nodules can form are on vocal cords, in muscles due to injury, or on the skin. Organs and glands can also develop nodules.
