According to Bruce Collette and his colleagues, who study ocean fish at the National Marine Fisheries Service Systematic Laboratory in Washington D.C., the groups of fish marked endangered or threatened are the most profitable in the seafood industry. Using the same criteria the International Union for the Conservation of Nature uses to produce its Red List of endangered species, Collette and his researchers have reported seven species to be endangered or vulnerable.
The list includes:
Critically Endangered: Southern Bluefin Tuna
Endangered: Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
Vulnerable: White & Blue Marlin, Spanish & Australian Spotted Mackrel, Bigeye Tuna
