What is New York City’s carbon footprint for one year?

A recent analysis revealed that about 58 million metric tons of CO2 were released into the atmosphere from New York City. While this number seems high it is only about 1 percent of the total carbon footprint of the US. And since New York’s population is about 2.7 percent of the entire country, that means that on average New York produces less than half of the carbon dioxide as other parts of the country do, per capita.
