    This method of reproduction is called binary fission and is used by prokaryotes, like bacteria.

    The cell replicates itself and pullls apart to create two cells with identical genetic material.

    What you are describing is mitosis.  Meiosis is a process that our sperm and egg cells go through to make gametes which can fuse to give a cell with a complete set of chromosomes.
