Ophiocordyceps camponoti-balzani is one of four species of fungus known as “zombie fungus” because it takes over the brain of an infected ant until the ant moves to a location ideal for spreading spores.
All four species live in the Brazilian rain forest. Below is a picture of the final stage of the mind control, where the ant has died and the fungus has grown out of its brain in order to release spores.
